Resilience : the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. - Google
There are a lot of definitions for this particular word with simplest of-course Google has curated from all different meanings.
Resilience is what makes people bounce back easily after being hit. As with most traits, all resilience are not created equal, but gladly, this a trait we can develop if we believe. This blog is more focused on the emotional intelligence that we all are looking for in our work life when we hit the bottom and we get a tough choice to make, what I think, I was going through couple of years back.
"Life doesn't get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient." - Steve Maraboli - Author of "Life, the Truth, and Being Free"
In life, we all get the pain even if we are at the brink of our steps to the success. From the study of different historical events like Holocaust some psychologists believe that resilience is based on genetics. It means that many people in this world can't be resilient as it's not the part of their genes. But now with some psychological progress made on this part now the Psychologists are more aware of Human brain's capability and its power to handle the emotional intelligence or being resilient.
In a research done by Diane Coutu found that there are three characteristics that resilient people posses and is there key to overcoming tough times and those are:
1) Staunch acceptance of reality
Resilient people accepts reality in a way it is and that's the reason they're able to figure it out the way to quickly stand up from the crisis. Like the layoffs that has been done in COVID-19, it's the truth in this epidemic for major product based companies. But the preparation and looking for every possibility to return and landing a job quickly makes a person resilient.
2) Believe life is meaningful
Sometimes the circumstances can hit so badly that we start questioning ourselves and your abilities. Blank, relapse, mental blockage, anxiety, depression, screen-slaved etc... These words starts getting in mind but we have to believe that this life is a gift to us. Resilient people and organizations knows deep that their life has a meaning and the same belief helps them look beyond.
3) An uncanny ability to improvise
The most crucial characteristic that resilient people and organizations possess. This ability is the one that pulls them out from a tough fight with brilliant tactical blow making them strong. Improvisation and Hope is the most important thing that should be always in our sleeves when we get into an issue or trouble.
After these characteristics we can think on the ways we want to cope with all the pressure and get back to our prime self by focusing on the vision or objective or road-map that we have put for ourselves. That vision is the inspiration for the being resilient and that will always help us fight with our issues.
